Despite the inconvenience of getting so far west and the airplane hanger size space I was really happy to have made it to the Armory show twice this year. I found much to be inspired by and found it very inspirational. As Roberta Smith said in her New York Times Article:
"Art fairs are for art lovers. There’s really no way around it. You can say that they demean art, that they’re all about commerce. You can complain about the crowds, the bad food, the poor ventilation. I hear you.
And yet if art is something you must have — or think you want to have — in your life, you stand to gain from perusing one or more of the several art fairs that have set down stakes across Manhattan this weekend. Open yourself to the best in them and they become pools of information that can humble, broaden and energize you in significant ways."
I agree with Roberta's sentiment. It's like food for the soul.
I saw many abstract and smaller pieces that I really felt looked fresh. And even large sculptures that seemed somehow appealing in a new way.
So it's exciting when one gets the opportunity to drink it in. I only wish somehow that they would stagger some of the events as they are just too large and there are too many of them to humanely take in all of them and still be standing.
Now to get working!

Inspiration
I have returned from my parents Iowa home which I visited for Thanksgiving, and am so grateful I have returned to find myself busy and inspired.
I am hoping to make best use of this holiday season to cheer up, try harder to find my own way by really painting and reaching out to others, and sharing more.
It's absolutely beautiful weather today in New York City so we have that to be grateful for as well.

Tuesday as a Good Start

It's a day to make it to Sotheby's to see the Contemporary Art. I was able to get to the Modern last week and enjoyed seeing it as well as Christie's, and from what I read they broke their record, so this brings some confidence that there is staying power with art. I found myself drawn to disparate pieces by many different eras and styles, from Leger to Van Dongen to an unknown artist that I found charming, and then on the way out saw a portrait by Van Dyck.

This is also what I must reconcile. I am really enthusiastic and passionate about so many styles and eras that it is difficult to decide upon what style is truly mine, as I delight in many. However at my latest class I am actually returning to the figure and the classics, as I really feel I didn't master what could be learned from them, they are still a continual force of inspiration, if they are really what would be called 'the great ones'.
So as I begin to experiment with sharing my search, I will try to expose this process. Please feel free to send me your comments. I will be taking some new pictures of what I have just done and post them shortly. I will leave you with a double portrait by an artist I don't know, from the 30s.

Going on a journey
Well, we're getting ready for our trip to the midwest. It's always an adventure to leave home and go on a journey. We'll be returning cross country by car which I hope we can make enjoyable. We'll be celebrating my Mom's 80th birthday. She's in great shape but it's hard to believe. She doesn't seem like she's 80.
Well, have to finish my chores so we can leave tomorrow with a clean slate.

Opening day at studio10075
I decided today was the day to begin studio10075 after a coincidental discussion by email with a stylist who is trying to set up her own site. I have delayed long enough and now the day has arrived. It's gorgeous, really the first day of spring here in the city, with all the flowers blooming, so why shouldn't studio10075 begin to flower as well?
